• How realistic is the wood-look finish on the planks garage door?

  Our planks doors use high-resolution, digitally printed faux-wood finishes, called Accents Woodtones, that replicate the color, texture, and grain patterns of natural wood. Each design is based on real wood samples, so look authentic even when viewed up-close.

• What materials are used to create the wood-look appearance?

  Although the door looks like real wood, it’s constructed from durable steel. The wood grain pattern is applied using an advanced imaging process and sealed with a protective topcoat to resist fading, peeling, and weathering.

• How does a wood-look steel door compare to a real wood garage door?

  Wood-look steel doors require far less maintenance than natural wood – no annual sanding, staining, or sealing required. You get the visual warmth of wood without the upkeep or vulnerability to moisture and warping.

• Will the wood-look finish fade over time?

  The Accents Woodtones finish has UV-resistant coatings designed to maintain color and clarity in direct sunlight. All exterior finishes will weather eventually, our engineered topcoat significantly slows fading compared to painted or natural wood doors.

• What wood-look finishes are available?

  Planks comes in walnut, driftwood, mahogany, cedar, dark oak, natural oak, and carbon oak. It also comes in a range of solid colors.

• Are wood-look garage doors insulated?

  Planks is available with polyurethane or polystyrene insulation for better energy efficiency and noise reduction.

• Are wood-look garage doors resistant to dents and scratches?

  The steel construction provides excellent impact resistance compared to natural wood. No finish is completely scratch-proof, but the protective coating system helps prevent minor blemishes.

• Do wood-look garage doors cost more than standard painted steel doors?

  Wood-look finishes cost more than standard colors due to the complex imaging process. But, they’re significantly more affordable than real wood doors and will save you money on long-term maintenance.

• Can the wood-look finish be repaired if it becomes damaged?

  Yes, we have touch-up kits for small scratches or chips. 

• Are wood-look garage doors compatible with modern or contemporary homes?

  Absolutely. The planks design features pairs well with modern and contemporary architecture – adding both texture and warmth.

• Can I buy products directly from you?

  All C.H.I. doors, replacement parts, and accessories are sold through our network of C.H.I. dealers. They’re dedicated professionals who install and service our doors with the same quality and workmanship we use to manufacture them. Find a local dealer.

Paint

• How should I paint my door?

  Most of our doors come painted, but if you’d like to paint an unfinished door or give a pre-painted door another coat, please read our guide for detailed instructions. The painting method varies significantly depending on the material your garage door is made from, so choose the method that matches the material.

• Where can I find touch-up paint for my door?

  Your local C.H.I. dealer can provide you with touch-up paint for every standard door color.

• How do I touch up my Accents Woodtones door?

  Touch-up kits are available for each of our Accents Woodtones. Please contact your local C.H.I. dealer for touch-up paint. Find a local dealer.

• Where can I find paint formulas for my C.H.I. door?

  We work with Sherwin-Williams Paints to determine our color formulas and recommend paint for each standard door color. Download the color formulas worksheet for more information.

• Can I order my C.H.I. door in a custom color?

  Yes! We offer in-house powder coating in 188 colors. We can also color match and create custom colors – this may increase lead times and cost, but your local dealer will be able to confirm. Availability varies by model. Get in touch with your local dealer to find out more.

Warranty

• What’s the warranty for my C.H.I. door?

  We provide a limited lifetime warranty on our doors. This varies by model. You can find more information on our warranty page.

• Do I need to register my door for the warranty?

  No, you don’t need to register your door. All the information necessary for a successful warranty claim can be found on your original purchase receipt. Claims are processed using the door code assigned to your door when it is ordered.

• How do I submit a warranty claim?

  To submit a warranty claim, please contact your local dealer.

Energy

• Does my door qualify for a tax credit?

  No – the tax credit for purchasing insulated garage doors expired on December 31, 2010

• How do I obtain LEED documentation for my door?

  If you require LEED documentation, your local dealer will help you.

• Can I buy a door on finance?

  Yes. We offer simple, convenient financing for homeowners. Your local dealer can talk you through financing options.

Openers

• What brand of residential openers do you offer?

  We’re proud to offer residential openers from LiftMaster and Linear.

• What brand of commercial openers do you offer?

  We’re proud to offer commercial openers from LiftMaster, McKeon, Micanan, and Somfy.

• How do I get my opener serviced?

  Please contact your local dealer for service on openers purchased from C.H.I. Overhead Doors.

Wind load

• Do you offer wind load products that meet Miami-Dade certification requirements?

  We offer a variety of wind load products and continue to expand our offerings in this area, but we don’t currently hold Miami-Dade certifications.
