  • Garage Door Safety Month

    Jun 05, 2013

June has been designated as Garage Door Safety Month. This is the perfect opportunity to be educated on the importance of properly maintaining your garage door, as well as promote safe use and operation. The garage door is the largest moving object on the home and without the proper maintenance can cause serious injuries. For the safety of you and others, an annual garage door inspection by a trained door systems technician is recommended to help maintain a properly functioning garage door.

    Garage Door Safety Checklist:

Visual inspection. Look at the garage door springs, cables, rollers, pulleys, and other door hardware for signs of wear. If you suspect problems, have the system inspected by a trained door systems technician.

Avoid a moving door and keep hands and fingers clear. Do not stand, walk, or run under a moving door. Hands and fingers must be kept clear from section joints, hinges, track, springs, and other door parts.

Do not let children play with transmitters or remote controls. Garage door operators are not toys. Keep transmitters and controls out of the reach of children. Push-button wall controls must be mounted high enough to be out of the reach of children.

Only operate the door if you can see it. Keep the door in sight until it closes completely.

Test the reversing mechanism monthly. If an object obstructs the door as it is closing, the door should reverse. If the door does not reverse, have the door system inspected, repaired, or replaced by a trained door systems technician.

Test the door balance monthly. With the door in the closed position and the operator disconnected, lift the door. It should lift smoothly and with little resistance and should remain open. If the door does not lift smoothly or remain open, have the door inspected and adjusted by a trained door systems technician.

Test the force setting monthly. Standing outside the path of the door, try to hold up the door to stop it from moving downward as it closes. If the door does not easily reverse, the force is excessive. Have the door inspected and adjusted by a trained door systems technician.

  • C.H.I. Overhead Doors Introduces New Website

    Apr 22, 2013

On April 17th, C.H.I. Overhead Doors released a new website which features a whole new look−one that provides the ultimate user-friendly experience with improved navigation and functionality.

“We wanted to design a site that, beginning at the main page, made clear that this is a company that is always in motion,” said Merle Miller, Marketing Specialist in the Marketing Department. “Yet we also want the larger site to be responsive; to work as well on a phone as on a tablet or desktop.”

Some new features of the website include a dynamic Garage Door Comparison page which allows users to find a garage door based on their preferred door style, material, color or insulation. But for those who know what they are looking for, we have included a “Search” field powered by Google that users can utilize to find specific product information. This site also incorporates mobile functionality to be used easily on a phone or tablet.

Another impressive component of this site is the ability for C.H.I. Dealers to become the preferred dealer for their customers. This key feature will allow the dealer information to be kept in front of customers during the entire web site experience, even when the customer returns to the site.
